Will Your Partner Cheat?
(WellnessPursuits.com) – Cheating is more common than you may think. About 20% of people admitted to having a physical affair in a survey, while 45% of men and 35% of women admitted to having an emotional affair, as reported by Business Insider. That’s a lot of infidelity! But how will you know if infidelity is knocking on your door? Can you tell if your partner will cheat?
1. Emotional Distance
Emotional detachment is often one of the first signs that something is not quite right in a relationship. You may notice that your partner seems separate from you, that they don’t want to open up or share with you. Emotional distance may mean that your partner is not happy with the relationship – but it might not mean that at all.
They may be battling their own demons. Regardless, if you want to save the relationship, you must break through. Couples counseling can help, but, above all, you need to communicate to close the distance. If you become too distant, the lure to cheat may become stronger.
2. Lack of Intimacy
Lack of intimacy in a marriage is a common problem. It can have many causes, including stress, depression, chronic illness, medication, hormone imbalances and even genital pain. But it can also mean that your partner is checking out of the relationship. It may even mean they’re getting their needs fulfilled elsewhere. To get to the bottom of it, you must have a direct and honest conversation with your partner about what’s going on.
3. Behavioral Changes
Behavioral changes are a sure sign that something’s up. If your partner is acting shady, such as hiding their phone, talking on the phone in the other room, dressing differently, doing new things and spending more time on personal pursuits, they may be talking to someone. This is especially true if they get extremely defensive when asked about the changes.
4. Missing Money
Follow the money! Having an affair often requires special purchases, and your partner may try to hide those purchases. If you come across receipts or unexplained withdrawals from your bank account for dinners, clothing, accommodations, entertainment or even bills, you should bring it up. There may be an innocent explanation, but it may also be a sign that your partner is courting someone.
5. Schedule Inconsistencies
Nobody can be in two places at the same time. If your partner is spending time with another person, there will be lost time and schedule inconsistencies. If, for example, your partner suddenly starts working overtime every night or starts going on business trips, there may be an issue. Really, anything that’s out of the ordinary could be questionable.
When it comes to cheating, trust your gut. No one knows your partner better than you. These signs do not necessarily mean that your partner is actively cheating, but they can show that you’re drifting apart. And infidelity thrives in those conditions. For this reason, you should speak to your partner at the first sign of troubles. Figure out what each of you wants from the relationship and work toward meeting those needs. Open communication is the key to making any relationship work.
