1. The Power Of Touch
Physical affection, including but not limited to sex, releases a hormone called oxytocin, which reduces stress and increases feelings of contentment and trust. Make a conscious effort to hold your partner’s hand or go in for a long hug. The results will be almost immediately noticeable.
2. Admit When You’re Wrong
Admitting you’re wrong can be really hard, but it’s critical to improving a relationship. While it may feel like projecting weakness by doing so, it actually shows your partner that they’re more important than whatever you were arguing about, and that you’re strong enough to acknowledge mistakes without losing your identity. Both of these things are highly attractive, and as a side bonus, your partner may learn to do it from your example!
3. Step Up Your Listening Skills
If you’re going to try only one thing on this list, this one has the most impact. Genuinely making the effort to listen to your partner (without interrupting or trying to turn the conversation back to yourself) is one of the best ways to build intimacy.
4. Dust Off Some Hobbies and Personal Interests
As important as it is to make time for each other in a relationship, it’s also important to make time for outside interests and friendships. It’s important to maintain your own personal identity. No one person can supply all of the needs of another person, and by developing your outside friendships and interests, you bring fresh conversations to your relationship. Seeing you animated about things that interest you can be very stimulating to your partner.
5. Make Time for Date Night
Although alone time is necessary, the most successful couples know how to have fun together. The longer you’ve been together, the more this may default to takeout and Netflix. Making the effort to have a date night and do something fun and out of the ordinary together is a great way to revive the spark in your relationship.
