5 Daily Habits That Are Messing Up Your Life

(WellnessPursuits.com) – I have a bad habit. You have a bad habit. We all have at least one. And while all the little things we do daily seem like they’re no big deal, they can really add up. Even worse? The tiny, miniscule things we do day in and day out – the most repetitive tasks – are usually the one causing us the most grief. Take a look at this list. Are you guilty of at least one of these?

  1. Staring at your phone. Don’t even pretend you don’t do it at least a few times a day. Some of us can claim we’re “working,” checking emails or returning important texts. Some of us are just chained to social media. Either way, looking down can cause a unique case of muscle strain dubbed “text neck.” It can eventually cause chronic pain and discomfort. If you really can’t give it a rest, try placing your phone on a stand directly in front of your face instead.
  2. Late night snacking. We don’t know about you, but we’re not exactly reaching for celery or carrot sticks when those late night cravings hit. We want chips, chocolate, cold pizza – junk full of calories. Believe it or not, late night snacking is usually the result of boredom —- not hunger. Grab a book, do a crossword puzzle, or find something more productive to do to occupy your time!
  3. Using too much hand sanitizer. Those cute little hand sanitizer bottles are super trendy, and they’re easy to throw in your pocket or bag. They even smell good. The problem? Overusing them breaks down your skins’ natural defenses, making your more susceptible to certain bacteria. Use it in a pinch, but stick to regular hand washing as much as possible.
  4. You rarely give yourself time to relax. We live in a busy world, and we’re always on the go. You shouldn’t end every single day exhausted. Try to find better balance by creating schedules that include true self-care time. Self-care is a habit we all tend to ignore, but doing so causes stress and anxiety.
  5. Overvaluing social media. Staying connected to friends and family is one thing; spending all day on social platforms is another entirely — especially if it keeps you from working, caring for yourself, or spending quality time with the people right in front of your face. Set daily time limits on your social media use each day and spend the rest of your time on your personal relationships. Don’t dissociate!

Trust us, we know —- habits can be tough to break, especially when they seem generally harmless. Make one small change at a time and we think you’ll be pleased with the positive change you see in your life!
