A: Utah
The residents of Utah report the most charitable donations of residents of any other US state. Also in the top 5 are the District of Columbia (not a state), Maryland, Wyoming and New York. Residents of West Virginia report the fewest charitable donations.
Other interesting statistics regarding the art of giving:
— Non-profit organizations receive the majority of their funding through donations by individuals.
— Fewer households donate to religious organizations than to non-religious organizations.
— Individual donations have been increasing every year since 2009.
— And not unexpected, more people feel encouraged to donate more generously during the last few months of the year (the holiday season) than throughout the rest of the year.
